Ruth Chiyono (Higa) Alo, 92, of Kapaau, formerly of Hilo and Oahu, died May 9 at Kaiser Moanalua Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in 9-1/2 Mile Camp, Olaa, she was a waitress at the Elliott’s Chuckwagon, kitchen worker at Masa’s Cafeteria and member of Kohala Okinawan Kenjin Kai and Aunty Sally’s Senior Center. Services pending. Survived by son, Melvin P. (Belinda Borges) Alo of Hilo; daughters, Jerry P. Horner of Mililani, Oahu, and Bea L. (Rod) Feliciano of Kapaau, sister-in-law, Hatsue Higa of Hilo; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Oahu Mortuary and Dodo Mortuary.

Maria Balmilero, 98, of Paauilo died May 14 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Vitar, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was a homemaker and member of St. Columbus Episcopal Church in Paauilo. Concepcion del Mar “Connie” Higa, 90, of Honolulu, formerly of Hilo and Kona, died May 16 in Honolulu. Born in Onomea, she was a self-employed seamstress and former sales representative for Von Hamm Young, BJ Furniture and GEM Store in Hilo.
